I've got a love-hate relationship with Facebook.
It's a great way to connect with people, get ideas I can apply to my business, or just be entertained.
It's also a huge time suck if you let it be one.
Obviously those neuroscientists and anthropologists in Silicon Valley know what the heck they are doing to make their technologies as "addictive" as possible.
However, if you are going to fritter your precious time away in Facebook-land, you'd benefit greatly from hanging out in some of my favorite copywriting-oriented groups.
You might even find yourself some potential clients or job opportunities...in addition to valuable marketing and copy insights you can apply to your business.
The key is to not only be in the right groups, but to be valuable and helpful to others, Just follow these "do's" and "don't"s...
DO answer questions, DO share what you know, and DO be generous.
DO be curious, DO ask questions, and DO be appreciative in return.
DON'T be a braggart, DON'T ask completely vague questions that make you appear to be a clueless "newbie", and DON'T come across as desperate for work.
Here are some of the best copywriting and marketing groups that I like to hang out in--and they're all free. (If you've got others to recommend, feel free to reply to this email and let me know what they are and why you like them)...
--Justin and Stefan Talk Copy: This massively helpful group, run by the massively smart and talented Justin Goff and Stefan Georgi, is a must for any serious direct response copywriter or marketer. You'll find copy analyses, what's working right now, and on occasional, potential jobs or client gigs.
--The Copywriter Club: With over 11,000 members, it's one of the largest and most diverse copywriter communities (by diverse I mean, a wide range of copywriting specialties as well as all levels of expertise). There's a positive, "we're in this together" vibe that's also fun...and some superstar members who go out of their way to be extraordinarily generous and helpful.
--The Gary Halbert Copy Club: This group is even more massive, with over 17,000 members. There's a great deal of sharing and valuable insights happening regularly, especially with the brilliant copywriter Bond Halbert (one of Gary's sons) at the helm and contributing regularly. Lots of focus on learning from the "classics" and the many greats that have come before us...but also a place to get help and find clients.
I'll be sharing some other ways you can connect with other copywriters and find great clients in the coming days.
But just a quick reminder...if you act within the next hour, you can still become a member of Titans Xcelerator and join the live call that's happening at 11 am Eastern. Starting about an hour or so into the call both Ben Settle and Doberman Dan will discussing all of the following:
The "wonder of direct mail" during this crisis
And a tribute to the late, great Clayton Makepeace
And don't forget, there's Perry Marshall coming up next week...and more speakers on the horizon. In fact, I just found out I'll be on one of the calls later this month doing live copy critiques (maybe yours will be one I look at?)
You can join Titans Xcelerator with a monthly membership (but that doesn't give you full access to all of the past call recordings and swipes).
However, if you spring for the one-year option, you'll not only save $400 right off the bat, you'll get these exclusive Copy Insider perks:
--Your choice of either "Breakthrough Advertising" (a $125 value) or "The Brilliance Breakthrough" book and workbook (a $195 value), both written by Gene Schwartz --A $125 rebate on your membership fee (so you save a total of $525) --Full, unfettered access to past call recordings, interviews, swipes, and other treasures in the Titans "vault" Go here to get all the details. Once you sign up (annual option only), send an email to Brian Kurtz at email@example.com with "Kim" in the subject line to claim your free Gene Schwartz book (indicate which one) and get your $125 rebate plus full access to the Titans treasure trove. I hope to see you on the call plus in the Facebook group soon! Yours for smarter marketing, Kim
